Typically you can expect comfortable and well-located 3-star hotels, but this varies with more remote destinations. • Sleep under the stars – in Jordan’s Wadi Rum desert, we sleep around the campfire the way the nomadic Bedouin people have done for generations (see page 37). • Keralan houseboat – drift along the backwaters of southern India on a converted houseboat, once used to transport spices to market (see pages 54 & 55). • Casa Particulares – traditional Cuban homes offering privately-run B&B style accommodation (see pages 42 & 43). p14 Road The quintessential way to make the most of a destination on two wheels. Our classic road rides don’t require technical riding skills so are ideal for cyclists of all levels. p60 Drop Bars Experienced riders will relish the opportunity to take on some of the most iconic roads in cycle racing, or the challenge of a cyclosportive such as the Atlas Etape or Cape Argus. p70 Off Road Head off the beaten track and hit the trails where our passion for cycling holidays began. Trips vary from dirt roads to steep, rocky trails and the terrain can often be mountainous. p80 Self-Guided Go your own way, at your own pace with detailed route notes and maps to help guide you. We transfer your luggage ahead, leaving you free to cycle where you fancy. PREMIUM NEW Main Photograph: Parco Alpi Apuane, Tuscany. See page 23 Activity levels: Find your comfort zone Each adventure is given an activity level, to help you choose a trip appropriate to your ability and requirements. You are healthy, enjoy the outdoors and want a relaxing trip. No routes are completely flat but the hills will be gentle, mostly climbing less than 250m a day and daily distances rarely exceed 50km. You are reasonably fit, enjoy the outdoors and are looking for some exercise. These are ideal for occasional or weekend cyclists, and off-road trips require no previous experience. Distances rarely exceed 70km per day. At this level, fitness and a spirit of adventure are important – you need to be confident in your ability and physical condition. Previous mountain biking experience is essential for off road trips at this level. Previous experience and an interest in remote or challenging environments are crucial. You need confidence both in your fitness and your technical ability on steep and challenging terrain, as well as long days in the saddle. Sometimes we use split grades, for a more accurate grading system, for example Leisurely/Moderate. It’s there to offer assistance or even a lift should you find yourself fatiguing - so you can be confident there’s back up when you book. Look out for… Premium Adventures offer extra style and comfort. Hotels have been handpicked for their luxurious qualities or renowned cuisine. For upgraded accommodation, we also offer Premium Departures on some of our most popular trips. Look for the P inF the Dates & Price Guide on trip pages. We love finding new parts of a continent or country to show our customers, or a new way to visit somewhere we’ve been before. Keep an eye on the trip pages for the icon, to see which of our tours are brand new. Hopefully our fresh itineraries for this year will motivate you to try something new! P F Special family-only departures are available on our Cycle the Baltics and Cycle the Canal du Midi trips. Look for the Family icon in the Dates & Price Guides. Alternatively we have family cycling trips to Cuba and Sri Lanka as well as many self-guided adventures perfect for the whole family. Please visit www.exodus.co.uk/family-holidays/cycling P F We recognise that around half of our bookings come from solo travellers, so if you’d like to join a departure recommended especially for solo travel please see the Dates and Prices guide for more details. 7
