Travelling to your destination Our Self-Guided trips are advertised as ‘Land Only’, starting locally in the destination, but we are happy to help you with your travel arrangements. Many of the trips are simple to get to by train and this can be a very enjoyable way to travel to Europe. Please ask one of our sales team for further details and they will be happy to book this for you in cooperation with Rail Europe. (Please note train tickets can generally only be booked three months in advance). Flexibility Our selection of self-guided holidays covers a variety of lengths, destinations and styles. Your trip will focus on a specific region allowing you plenty of time to really explore the destinations. The benefit of a self-guided itinerary is that you can see the highlights in your own way. We provide suggestions in the route notes, but you can plan your day around what interests you most. In addition to this, the departure dates are much more flexible. On many trips there are departures every second day, or at least once or twice a week throughout the season, just check the trip information on each page and then check availability with our sales team. Route notes and maps We provide you with detailed route notes and the relevant local maps to get you to your next accommodation, including accurate distances and directions. As well as taking the hassle out of route finding, the notes also give you plenty of local hints to ensure that you don’t miss the highlights of the region. From the best cafés and restaurants to the finest chateaux and most interesting museums, we will help you get the most out of your holiday. We also provide you with contact details for our local representative, should you need any assistance or further advice during your trip. Your luggage A luggage transfer from hotel to hotel is included, thus allowing you to enjoy cycling with only a pannier bag on the bike. Each morning just pack your luggage and leave it in the hotel reception by the designated time and it will be delivered to your next hotel later in the day. It really is that simple. Your bike Quality hybrid or touring style bikes are included in the trip price for all destinations. Racing or electric E-bikes are available on request for a supplement on some trips. If required, we will reserve a suitably sized bike at the time of your booking. All bikes are supplied with at least one pannier bag to carry the items you’ll need during your ride, as well as a pump and puncture repair kit. Some bikes also feature a speedometer and plastic map holder. You are welcome to bring your own bike from the UK, but you should be aware that arranging bike transport on Europe’s rail network can be complex. A discount of £90 will apply if you do so. Your accommodation As you are in the saddle during the day it is important that you get a good night sleep. Our hotels are carefully selected for their warm and friendly welcome, their traditional charm and their location. It is important that they fit well into the route to ease your journey and facilitate your exploration. We use a range of comfortable 2 to 4-star accommodations, including cosy family-run hotels, charming inns and farmhouses, or tourist class hotels in the larger cities. All have en suite facilities and some feature outdoor swimming pools. However, if you are looking for a little more comfort, we offer a range of Premium Adventures. Please be aware that although prices on the following selfguided trips are based on two people travelling, it is usually possible to travel as an individual with an additional ‘solo traveller’ supplement. P F Premium Adventures The pace of these trips is a little slower, with less mileage to cover and more focus on comfort. The hotels used have been handpicked for their luxurious qualities. They are often set in stunning locations, offer fabulous cuisine, and local charm in abundance. From a luxurious French chateau to a 14th Century castle in Catalunya, you are sure to enjoy a special experience. Many of the hotels have private swimming pools, some have spas, and as you will be in the same place for more than one night at a time you really can unwind and enjoy the experience. Food and wine feature among the highlights of many of these trips, there are many more meals included, some are half board, and some of the trips are specifically focused around gastronomy – here your evening meals will be a real treat! As you are paying for a premium experience you have a little more support on these trips without infringing on your self-guided experience. Transfers are available from local stations to the start hotels, and also on return at the end of your trip. This will need to be arranged on booking and is subject to timings, the local stations are detailed on each trip page and more details will be given in the Trip Notes. On arrival at your hotel you will have a short briefing with our local representative who will set you up with your bikes and give you a few local hints and tips that will help you during your trip. They will also be the person who transfers your luggage between hotels and will be on call to give you assistance should you need it. There is also an emergency telephone service. P F Families Self-guided cycling holidays offer the perfect option for families looking for an active holiday with a bit more freedom and flexibility. As there is no group and no leader, the pace and the places you choose to stop can suit you and your family. If you have younger children there are trailers available in some destinations and child bikes to suit the older ones, please see the trip notes for more information. Many of the routes are on quiet country lanes and cycle tracks, so ideal for children and following the route notes together as a family can be a fun way for children to try map reading. Alternatively, if you are a family of strong cyclists and really want to make the most of the open road then you can adapt the routes to suit you. Please note that children under 12 years old are generally eligible for a discounted rate, although this can vary depending on the trip you choose. Please speak to as sales consultant for more information on prices and suitability of the trips for younger children.
