We visit the Wellington Museum in Waterloo, see the key farms of La Haye Sainte and Hougoumont, and walk the fields where the fighting took place. We visit the Lion Mount Visitors’ Centre, see the unique Waterloo panorama and climb the steps up the Lion Mound to get a spectacular view of where history was changed forever. On this weekend, several re-enactor groups usually set up ‘battle camps’ and battle re-enactments so you can see what a British or French camp of 1815 was like, see drill, camp life and equipment. 2xB Jun 19 Return home. Lion Mound Memorial Day 1 Local departure by coach, then to our hotel in Belgium for a four-night stay. Day 2 Walk 1: We start with two short battlefield walks at Quatre Bras and Ligny, examining the vital opening shots to the Waterloo Campaign. After lunch we visit the Wellington Museum in Waterloo and see the memorials to fallen officers in St. Joseph’s Church. Walk 2: We then walk across the battlefield to Frischermount and Papelotte. Later, we walk across Wellington’s left flank and end the day at La Haye Sainte. B Day 3 Walk 3: We walk the right flank seeing where the French cavalry charged the British squares and Napoleon’s Imperial Guard were repulsed. At the new Lion Mound Centre you will see the new museum. Following lunch you visit the recently restored Hougoumont Farm, now a museum. Walk 4: We then walk the battlefield to La Belle Alliance, looking at the battlefield from the French perspective ending at Le Caillou, Napoleon’s General Headquarters. B Day 4 We visit the Brussels War Museum. Walk 5: We then walk the battlefield at Wavre, where the Prussians clashed with French Marshal Grouchy’s men. After visiting the impressive private Napoleonic war museum at Ligny we go to Plancenoit, where the Young Guard fought the Prussians. We end at the Wounded Eagle memorial looking at the allied rout of Napoleon’s army. B Day 5 Return home. B Included Meals: B=Breakfast
