D-Day Landings in Normandy The landings on the Normandy coastline on 6th June 1944 were the turning point of the WWII in the west – few other events of this war have captivated such public interest, and D-Day remains an inspiring and moving story more than 70 years later. 4-Day Break Day 1 Local departure by coach, then to Caen in Normandy for a three-night stay. Day 2 Today is spent looking at the British and Canadian involvement. Sites of special interest will be... Pegasus Bridge & Museum, scene of the first actions of D-Day and glider landings. Ranville, visit the British Airborne Cemetery Sword, Juno & Gold beaches, scenes of heavy British and Canadian losses. Arromanches, where we see the remains of the Mulberry Harbour. B Day 3 Today we turn to look at the American aspects of D-Day and the story of ‘Bloody Omaha.’ Main sites will be... Omaha Beach, where we uncover the real story of Saving Private Ryan. Overlord Museum, we visit this impressive museum in Normandy. Richard Winters Leadership Memorial, we look at the story of the U.S. Airborne Forces and the men known as the ‘Band of Brothers’. Utah Beach, we visit the expanded museum. German Cemetery at La Cambe, the resting place of German tank ace Michael Wittman. B Day 4 Return home. B 5-Day Break Day 1 Local departure by coach, then to Caen in Normandy for a four-night stay. Days 2 & 3 As per the 4-day itinerary. 2xB Day 4 We move beyond D-Day and look at the fighting in the Bocage countryside... Bloody Battles, we examine the fighting at Tilly-sur-Seulles and Fontenay le Pesnel. ‘Scottish Corridor’, we visit Hill 112 with its Churchill tank memorial. ‘Corridor of Death’, used by the Germans to make their retreat in August 1944. B Day 5 Return home.
